The project took a significant step forward last year when the state of Maryland, Prince George's County, and Konterra came to an agreement whereby the state, in return for 240 acres of land concessions for the ICC, would build interchanges off I-95 at the ICC and a brand-new I-95 interchange north of the development in the vicinity of the current Van Dusen Road bridge (between MD-198 and MD-200, the ICC).
Maryland began construction on the roads in late 2011, including extending Contee Road to the new interchange just south of the MD-198 exit. The roadwork is expected to be completed in late 2014.
At this point the timetable for work on Konterra Town Center itself is unknown. In late March, the owners of the 2,200 acre property (Gould Property Co.) unexpectedly announced that they had dissolved their partnership with Forest City Washington. Gould said the split was amicable and that they plan to proceed with the Konterra project.
