Qualifying items purchased online and delivered this week are also tax-exempt.
Unfortunately, schools supplies are not tax-exempt.
- Shop Maryland Tax-Free Week FAQs (pdf from the Comptroller of Maryland web site)
- Clothing
- Footwear
Exceptions that are not included in the tax holiday:
- Accessories (e.g., jewelry, watches, handbags, scarves, ties, umbrellas, etc.)
- Protective gear (e.g., football pads)
- Taxable services performed on the clothing (e.g., alterations)
- Items over $100 (if an item is above this limit, it is not partly eligible)
According to an article by WTOP, Maryland retailers often put other items on sale during the week to encourage shoppers, and see a doubling of their sales during Tax-Free Week.
Additionally, in February the state will also have a Shop Maryland Energy Tax-Free Weekend for Energy Star-compliant appliances from February 14-16, 2015.
