That's an artifact of using a blogging service to host the site, but it was the fastest (and cheapest) way to build a site for our community, that I can maintain quickly and easily.
With that said, here are a few tips on how to most effectively use the site and to find information. Let me know if you have any more questions!
1. Static Pages
Across the top of the site, you will see five fixed "static" web pages linked (on a mobile device, you will need to access them from a pulldown menu):
- About Autumn Walk - overview of Autumn Walk, Emerson, and the area
- Flamingo Fridays! - what they are and how they work
- Landscaping - information about the landscaping contract
- Maintenance Tips - collection of all posts related to maintenance of our homes and community
- Contact - how to contact me, the Board, and the Community Manager (CAS)
The static pages are where you will most likely find useful information that has been posted in the past.
2. Sidebar
Down the right side of the desktop version of the site, you will see links and information about Autumn Walk and Emerson:
- Translate: a Google service that translates the web page you are reading into another language
- Facebook: clicking on the icon takes you to the unofficial residents-only Facebook page
- Other Useful Posts: links to posts about Flamingo Fridays, the HOA calendar, and HOA info
- Blog Archive: navigation for old posts
- Useful Links: external web links to sites of interest within Emerson and Howard County
- Also in Emerson: a listing of other neighborhoods within Emerson, with links if available
3. Labels
On the bottom of every post, there are labels describing the topic of the post. To find more posts with similar content, click on the label.
This is the easiest way to find notes from the Emerson HOA meetings, since they aren't aggregated elsewhere.
- Emerson Master HOA - topics related to Emerson Master HOA
- HOA Board - topics related to Autumn Walk sub-HOA
4. Search
At the top of the site is a search box that will search and return results ONLY within the Autumn Walk @ Emerson web site.
5. Follow By Email
At the bottom of the site, you can enter an email address if you want to get a notification when new posts are added to the site.
6. New Topics
If you have any information that you would like passed to the community, send an email to autumnwalkhoa (at) gmail.com. (This can also be used to reach the Board and CAS, as I forward emails to them that are not directly related to the web site.)
Or, if you post something to the unofficial Facebook page, I will sometimes take significant information and write a blog post.
7. Comments
Anyone can comment on a post, but comments are moderated in order to ensure that they are positive, appropriate, and do not contain spam links.
